Proactive foresight rather than crisis management be mantra: Experts

A Speaker addressing the conference on “Architecture, Building Materials and Technologies” organised by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Chandigarh-Punjab Chapter at Himachal Bhawan, Chandigarh, on the second day of the three day exhibition on architecture, building materials and technologies “ArchiBuild 2014”.

Chandigarh,  September 27, 2014: Mooting sufficient mandatory and regulatory measures, Mahesh Kumar, Engineer in Chief, PWD, B&R, Haryana said, “Quantum of damages done and the quantum of cost of crisis management during disasters can be brought down with proactive designs, little foresight, and preventive measures.” Damage has to be brought to the minimum to bring down the loss of life, he added.
The Engineer-in-Chief was speaking on protection against natural hazards, during the conference on “Architecture, Building Materials and Technologies” organised by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Chandigarh-Punjab Chapter at Himachal Bhawan, Chandigarh, on the second day of the three day exhibition on architecture, building materials and technologies “ArchiBuild 2014”.
Taking note that the conference has brought together a group of exhibitors, manufacturing industrialists, and students besides professionals like architects, engineers, interior designers and builders, Kumar said that such initiatives go a long way in understanding the nuances and details of the trade and urged PHD Chamber and IIA to organise more such interactions facilitating interactions between students and budding architecture and senior counterparts.
Dalip Sharma, Regional Director, PHD Chamber informed that “The Conference aimed at providing maximum of opportunities of interaction among industry experts and players, to share the ideas and experience about the latest technology.  The conference included lectures, slide-shows on various issues concerning the profession of Architecture.”  
Earlier speaking on the occasion, Ar Namita Singh said that small initiatives on each ones’ part can make the difference.
She said that traditionally, the designs and architecture in India has been based on sustainability and using natural resources. Singh advised the students and budding architects to use optimum use of natural resources, and shared how the designs could be integrated in the natural environs without disturbing the same.
While delving into the details of the nuances of architecture, Ar Renu Khanna said, “It is very important to take care of the intangible subtleties of a design to give a human feel and touch to the whole product of architecture.”
Ar. Manmohan Khanna Chairman, Institute of Indian Architects, Ar. Surinder Pal Singh Bahga, Past Chairman, Institute of Indian Architects, Ar. Neeraj Gupta, Dean, School of Architecture, Central University of Rajasthan, Ar. Vivekanand Tiwari, Ar. Renu Khanna, also spoke on the occasion.
The fourth edition of Archibuild, 2014 was thrown open for the general public, yesterday by K K Sharma, Advisor, UT, Chandigarh.
