Ludhiana, September 1, 2023: The ICAR, Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI) Zone I, in collaboration with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana today organised a Research-Extension Interface meet on precision livestock farming, tailored exclusively for Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) Animal Scientists.

This two days interface will delve into the usage of latest technologies for climate resilient precision livestock farming through artificial intelligence, machine learning, biosecurity, one health etc. This transformative gathering has got participation of 45 animal scientists from KVKs of Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Dr. Preeti Mamgai, the Principal Scientist at ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, opened the event with an enlightening overview that sparked curiosity and set the tone for two days of intense discourse.

Dr S K Uppal, Dean, Post graduate studies of Vet Varsity stressed upon the need of precision livestock farming for commercial level entrepreneurship. Dr. Uppal remarked that this technique of precision livestock farming will not only cater to the need of improvement in production but will also take care of animal welfare too.

Dr. Y P S Malik, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology, Vet Varsity and convenor of the event, highlighted the pivotal role of precision livestock farming in modern livestock production, igniting a spirit of innovation. Dr Malik also appreciated the spark inside the livestock scientists to learn and evolve.

Dr. Parvender Sheoran, Director of ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana and convenor of the event, emphasized the collaborative aspect of the workshop, bringing together experts to drive collective progress.

The inaugural session witnessed the insightful opening remarks of renowned personalities. Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education, Vet Varsity and chief guest of the event, shared his appreciation for ATARI to arrange for such an elite gathering. Dr. Brar strongly appreciated the meticulous planning of the curriculum with items like biosecurity, paddy residue management, artificial intelligence etc. in the field of animal sciences.
