The Postgraduate Punjabi Department of Lyallpur Khalsa College celebrated its Platinum Jubilee on March 19–20, commemorating 75 years of academic excellence since the launch of its M.A. Punjabi program in 1950. The milestone event highlighted the department’s rich legacy in promoting Punjabi language, literature, and culture. A series of vibrant activities, including a heritage village and a book exhibition featuring around 12 publishers, added cultural depth to the celebrations.

Ludhiana, March 19, 2026: The Postgraduate Punjabi Department of Lyallpur Khalsa College celebrated its Platinum Jubilee on March 19–20, commemorating 75 years of academic excellence since the launch of its M.A. Punjabi program in 1950. The milestone event highlighted the department’s rich legacy in promoting Punjabi language, literature, and culture. A series of vibrant activities, including a heritage village and a book exhibition featuring around 12 publishers, added cultural depth to the celebrations.
Over the decades, the department has produced numerous distinguished personalities who have made significant contributions to Punjabi literature and culture at national and international levels. Its unique history and consistent efforts toward the development of the Punjabi language have earned it a special place in academia. The celebrations reflected this legacy through thoughtfully curated programs focused on literature, art, and cultural heritage.
The inaugural day featured inter-college competitions such as quiz, poster-making, and poetry recitation, along with a grand Kavi Darbar organized with the support of the Central Punjabi Writers' Association. The event was graced by renowned Punjabi poet and Chairman of the Punjab Kala Parishad, Swaranjit Swai, as the chief guest. Eminent literary figures including Dr. Waryam Sandhu and Darshan Buttar presided over the Kavi Darbar.
Welcoming the guests, Principal Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu emphasized the department’s global contributions and expressed pride in celebrating its 75-year journey. Chief guest Swaranjit Swai praised the department’s achievements and its commitment to promoting Punjabi language and culture. Dr. Waryam Sandhu, reflecting on his association with the department, encouraged students to excel in literature and the arts and congratulated the Principal and Head of Department Dr. Harjinder Singh Sekhon for organizing the event.
Various segments of the celebration were inaugurated by eminent personalities, including Paramjit Kaur Deol, Dr. Gopal Singh Buttar, and Dr. Kulwant Singh Aujla. The Kavi Darbar witnessed participation from around 23 renowned poets, making it one of the major highlights of the event.
In the competitions, students from different colleges showcased exceptional talent. Nandini from Lyallpur Khalsa College (Girls) secured first position in poster-making, while Gurleen Chana from HMV Jalandhar topped the poetry recitation contest. In the quiz competition, the team of Lyallpur Khalsa College emerged victorious. Winners were awarded certificates and cash prizes, while all participants received certificates of appreciation.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Head of the Department Dr. Harjinder Singh Sekhon, who expressed gratitude to all guests, faculty members, media representatives, and students. The celebrations witnessed enthusiastic participation from scholars, teachers, and students, making the Platinum Jubilee a memorable and inspiring occasion.
