Chandigarh, July 26, 2023: Akanksha Mahajan, a Research Fellow at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University (PU), has achieved stellar recognition for the institute. She has been granted the prestigious "Commonwealth Split-Site Scholarship-2023," a fully funded opportunity to engage in collaborative research between India and the UK in the field of Nanomedicine. The official communique regarding her selection for this esteemed award was received from the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, UK, on July 21, 2023.

Akanksha has been conducting her doctoral research  in pharma sciences topic entitled,"QbD-oriented Design and Development of Lipid-Based Novel Drug Carriers of Anti-fungal and Anti-arthritic Agents for Topical Delivery with Improved Biopharmaceutical Attributes under the guidance of Professor O P Katare of UIPS, former Director-Research of PU and Chairman of UIPS, and Professor Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, formerChairman of UIPS, and currently an Emeritus Professor, Chitkara University, Rajpura, Punjab. As part of the prestigious "Commonwealth Split-Site Scholarship-2023," she will continue her research work on the topical delivery of antifungal drugs and their extensive characterization using molecular and biological methodsunder the supervision of Professor Kamalinder K Singh at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, UK.

The esteemed award encompasses coverage for round-trip international travel expenses to the UK, tuition fees at the University, research contingencies, a study travel grant within the UK or overseas, and a living allowance for one year. The total value of these benefits is over £40,000 (over ₹40 L). Akanksha is the sole research scholar from the fields of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Nanomedicine across India to be chosen for this prestigious commonwealth scholarship award.
