PG Department of Commerce and Management of PCM S.D. College for Women holds National Seminar on ‘Intellectual Property Rights: Relevance for Budding Innovators’
The PG Department of Commerce and Management in association with IPR Cell of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar organized a National Seminar on the topic "Intellectual Property Rights: Relevance for Budding Innovators" via Zoom platform.
Jalandhar, April 21, 2026: The PG Department of Commerce and Management in association with IPR Cell of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar organized a National Seminar on the topic "Intellectual Property Rights: Relevance for Budding Innovators" via Zoom platform.
The resource person for the session was Shivakumara R., Intellectual Property Rights Counsel, John Deere India, Pune.
The objective of this event was to give essentials of Intellectual Property, Trademarks and Brand and make the students more aware in terms of importance of these intangible assets in present times.
The speaker explained the concept and meaning of Intellectual Property, Trademarks and Brand. He also mentioned that Intellectual property is generally characterized as non-physical property that is the product of original thought. Further, he explained about various Intellectual Property Rights, IPRS and various provisions of law attached to it. He cited various examples of product names, product packaging, slogans, designs, bottle designs, logos, trade secret, any and all copyrights and copyrightable works, any and all product formulas, recipes, formulations and blends, artistic works etc.
He further highlighted that prominent career opportunities in the IPR domain include IPR Attorney/Lawyer, Patent Agent, IPR Consultant, IP Analyst, Technology Transfer Officer, IPR Manager, Examiner of Patents & Designs, IPR Academician/Trainer, IP Paralegal, and IPR Valuation Expert.
Advantages of IPRs and Challenges involved were also vividly discussed. How technology is helping in creating awareness about IPRs at the same time, technology also providing easy access for plagiarism and infringement etc. was a cause for concern. Total 35 students attended the session along with the faculty members of Commerce and Management department. Mrs. Shikha Puri, Dean Commerce Club, took the opportunity to thank the honorable resource person.
President Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Vinod Dada, other members of the managing committee and Principal Dr Pooja Prashar applauded the department for holding a knowledgeable session that gave guidance and deep insights about Intellectual Property, Trademarks and Brand and their relevance for budding innovators.
