PCM S.D. College for Women holds International Webinar on “British and European Punjabi Literature in the Context of Life”

The Amrita Pritam Literary Society of the Department of Punjabi of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, under the aegis of IQAC, organized an international webinar on the topic “British and European Punjabi Literature in the Context of Life.”

Jalandhar, April 18, 2026: The Amrita Pritam Literary Society of the Department of Punjabi of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, under the aegis of IQAC, organized an international webinar on the topic “British and European Punjabi Literature in the Context of Life.”

On this occasion, Balvinder Singh Chahal (Punjabi writer and President, European Punjabi Literary Academy, England) and Jaspal Singh (social worker, translator, and Chief Advisor, European Punjabi Literary Academy, England) participated as the speakers.

During the webinar, Balvinder Singh Chahal provided a brief overview of the historical background of Indian Punjabi migration. Speaking about Punjabi literary creations in Britain, he proudly highlighted that migrant Punjabi writers have been continuously contributing to Punjabi literature, especially in genres such as poetry, short stories, and novels. These works intricately portray various aspects of British life. To better understand life in Britain, he recommended reading the works of prominent British Punjabi writers such as Harjeet Atwal, Swaran Chandan, Neel Giri, Davinder Kaur, and many others.

Following this, Jaspal Singh discussed the interrelationship between literature and history, as well as the role of literature in human life. He also appreciated the writings and literary craftsmanship of prominent Italy-based Punjabi writers dedicated to the Punjabi language, including Malkiat Singh Dhaliwal, Jeet, Amarjit Sidhu, and Sucha Singh.

Dr. Surinder Kaur Narula, former Head of the Punjabi Department at PCM S.D. College for Women, attended the webinar as a special guest. Along with her, faculty members and students from various streams of the college enthusiastically participated in the event.

President Naresh Budhia, Senior Vice President Vinod Dada, other esteemed members of the managing committee, and Principal Dr Pooja Prashar appreciated the efforts of the Department of Punjabi in successfully organizing this webinar.
