PAU scientists and students win laurels at Indian Horti-Congress
Four faculty members and five students of the College of Horticulture and Forestry (COHF), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), have won laurels in the 10th Indian Horticulture Congress, organized by the Indian Academy of Horticultural Sciences, New Delhi at the Assam Agricultural University, Guwahati from November 6-9, 2023.

Ludhiana, November 14, 2023: Four faculty members and five students of the College of Horticulture and Forestry (COHF), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), have won laurels in the 10th Indian Horticulture Congress, organized by the Indian Academy of Horticultural Sciences, New Delhi at the Assam Agricultural University, Guwahati from November 6-9, 2023.
Dr Anirudh Thakur, Professor of Fruit Science, was awarded the prestigious fellowship of the Indian Academy of Horticultural Sciences, New Delhi for his outstanding contributions to horticulture (fruit science).
Dr Neha Verma, Research Fellow in the Department of Vegetable Science, won the prestigious Dr BR Barwale Young Scientist Award in Horticultural Biotechnology -2023 for her Ph.D. thesis “Inheritance and molecular mapping of gene(s) associated with Yellow Vein Mosaic disease (YVMVD) resistance in pumpkin (Cucurbitamoschata Duchesne)”. The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 25,000, medal and a citation. Her Major Advisor during the Ph.D. was Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research.
Dr Satpal Sharma, Principal Vegetable Breeder, bagged the “Best Oral Presentation Award” for his work entitled “Root traits and phenotyping strategies for orienting vegetable breeding to climate change”. Besides, he was also awarded the “Best Poster Prize” for his work “Resistance to fusarium wilt and genetic diversity of snap melon accessions.”
Nidhi, a Ph.D. student of the Department of Vegetable Science, won the third best poster paper award for her paper “Investigations on stability of monoecious inbred lines of muskmelon (Cucumismelo L.) and their evaluation for horticultural traits.” The paper has been authored by Nidhi, Sat Pal Sharma, Neena Chawla and Navraj Kaur Sarao.
Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU; Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research; and Dr Manav Indra Singh Gill, Dean, COHF, congratulated the scientists and the student for their achievements.
