PAU organises nutrition awareness camp

Ludhiana, October 18, 2023: The Department of Food and Nutrition, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized nutrition awareness camp at Government Senior Secondary Smart School, PAU, Ludhiana.

Giving details, Dr Kiran Grover, Head, Department of Food and Nutrition, said that engaging school children provided them an opportunity to play a role in the ongoing efforts to combat malnutrition. Nutrition education will yield positive impact on the wider community, she added. “Learning about making healthy food choices not only helps them to develop lifelong habits but also makes them eager to share the knowledge with their friends and family,” she observed.

The camp was organized under the supervision of Dr Renuka Aggarwal, Scientist of the department. The students of Master’s programme of the department educated the school students about various issues related to food and water. The primary focus of the camp was to raise awareness regarding food and waste management, importance of millets and their innumerable health benefits, techniques to save water in a holistic way and inculcating healthy food habits to reduce malnutrition. The students were also encouraged to improve their eating habits to lead a healthy lifestyle and extract their maximum growth potential with the help of a nutritionally balanced diet. The students of the department presented their knowledge with the aid of creative handmade charts, display items and beneficial demonstrations for a deeper and better understanding.
