Students get rare opportunity to directly observe state legislative process

Chandigarh, June 25, 2025: As part of the Youth Leadership Camp, Panjab University students visited Punjab Legislative Assembly in Chandigarh on Tuesday evening. During the visit, the students got the rare opportunity to directly observe the state legislative process and interact with Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, Kultar Singh Sandhwan.

The one week camp is being organised by Department Youth & Welfare, Panjab University, Chandigarh under the guidance and support of Dr. Sukhjinder Rishi, Director, Youth Welfare, PU. The objective of the camp is to train the youth to serve society with honesty, awareness, and responsibility. The camp will conclude on June 27, 2025.

The students were guided in this session by Punjab Speaker, whose inspiring and thought-provoking interaction deeply moved the students. A highly appreciated interactive Q&A session was organised on the occasion, where students posed insightful and inquisitive questions to Sandhwan. This dialogue served as a bridge between youthful aspirations and institutional experiences.

The students were also taken on a tour of the Assembly Hall, where a mock debate session was held. On the topic—“One Nation, One Election”, students played the roles of Members of Parliament and practically experienced the legislative process, the dignity of debate, and the challenges of policy-making.

Following the intellectual and democratic activities, the evening transformed into a cultural night, during which the students brought Punjab's rich cultural heritage to life. Live performances of Punjabi folk songs rekindled the spirit of rural Punjab. The traditional Rabab playing, with its melodious tunes, infused the atmosphere with a spiritual and soothing aura.
