PAU ORGANISES AWARENESS CAMP ON MICRO IRRIGATION

Ludhiana, November 7, 2016: The Department of Soil and Water Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a one-day awareness camp on “Micro irrigation” at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kheri (Sangrur). More than 200 farmers from Sangrur district participated in the camp.v Dr Rajan Aggarwal, Head, Department of Soil and Water Engineering, PAU, discussed the conservation of water resources for sustainable agriculture. He urged the farmers to adopt micro irrigation technologies for improving water use efficiency.

Dr Rakesh Sharda, Principal Investigator of the scheme titled, “Promotion of micro irrigation for canal command area and water management for Kotla branch-Part II,” delved on the use of drip irrigation and fertigation for raising different crops. He informed the farmers about different components of drip irrigation and fertigation, and the subsidies available on the system.

Dr Angrej Singh, a farm engineer, explained the benefits of fertigation through micro irrgation system.

The experts namely Dr Davinder Singh and Dr Buta Singh Romana deliberated on different aspects of cultivation of horticultural crops using micro irrigation system.

Dr Mandeep Singh, Deputy Director, KVK, Kheri coordinated the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.
