PAU To Impart Training For Festival Season

Ludhiana, October 8, 2015: With the festival season fast approaching, the Directorate of Extension Education of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) is all set to organize a training course on the “Household Management Practices during Festival Season” on October 14 and 15. Farm women and rural youths will participate in the course.

According to Dr R.S.Sidhu, Director of Extension Education, the home science experts will educate the trainees about cleaning and decoration of home during festivals. Besides, they will give demonstrations on rangoli making, candle making, diya decoration; and preparation of sweet and salty snacks like soy manchurian, jalebi with rabri, gulab jamun, etc., he added. Dr Sidhu further said the experts will also inform about the precautionary measures for children on Diwali festival and safe clothing for festival season.

Another training course on “Integrated Mushroom Growing Unit” will be conducted for horticulture development officers, district extension specialists, and scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras from October 14-16. The microbiology experts will provide an overview of mushroom production and throw light on nutritional and medicinal value of mushrooms, their marketing, processing and value addition. In addition, focus will be on recent developments in composting for button mushroom production, innovations in spawn production, construction of mushroom growing houses, post-harvest care of fresh mushrooms, and production and management of white button mushroom. The experts will also discuss about the cultivation of oyster, shiitake, milky and paddy straw mushrooms.
