PAU Celebrates National Nutrition Week

Ludhiana, September 3, 2015: A National Nutrition Week was celebrated by the Department of Food and Nutrition, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and Nutrition Society of India- Ludhiana chapter. On the occasion, an Inter-college Salad Making Competition was organized. The competition was held with the objective to promote the inclusion of fresh fruits and vegetables in the daily diet for maintaining optimum state of health. A total of 23 students from different colleges of the city participated in this nutritious event. The participants displayed their skills by preparing a variety of nutritious and delicious salads by using various food groups as cereals, pulses, fruits and vegetables, nuts and milk products.
The faculty members of the Department, Dr Anita Kochhar, Professor-cum- Head; Dr Jaswinder Brar, Professor and Mrs Ravinder Dhaliwal, Assistant Professor evaluated the salads prepared by the participants. Ms Navpreet Kaur from Guru Nanak Girls College bagged the first prize while Namandeep Kaur from Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women and Nikita Jain from Khalsa College for Women won the second prize. Third prize was bagged by Nikit Kapoor from Punjab College of Technical Education and Kritika Jain from Khalsa College for Women.
Dr. Kiran Grover, Coordinator of the event, said, “Nutrition Week is celebrated by the department every year.” She emphasized and encouraged the students to consume a balanced diet by including at least one food from all the food groups in daily diet to sustain physical and mental health.
Dr Kochhar gave away the certificates to the participants and prizes to the winners. She appreciated the efforts put in by all the students.
