Chandigarh, June 26, 2026: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh through the Srimanta Sankardev Chair, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dibrugarh University at Dibrugarh University in Assam.
The agreement seeks to foster interdisciplinary research, academic exchange and collaborative initiatives centred on the literary, cultural, philosophical and spiritual legacy of Srimanta Sankardev.
Prof. Yojna Rawat, Former Dean of University Instruction PU and former Coordinator of the Srimanta Sankardev Chair, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of the University.
The Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Prof. Jiten Hazarika, reiterated the University's commitment to strengthening academic ties and facilitating collaborative initiatives for the promotion of Srimanta Sankardev studies. He stated that the partnership would create meaningful opportunities for students, scholars and researchers of both institutions.
The MoU focuses on extensive collaboration in several key areas, including interdisciplinary research on the Bhakti Movement and Srimanta Sankardev studies, faculty and student exchange programmes, joint supervision of research scholars, collaborative publications and translations, seminars, conferences, memorial lectures, workshops, cultural festivals and other academic activities. The agreement also encourages interdisciplinary research initiatives and the exploration of joint research projects with funding support from national and international agencies.
The collaboration also aims to promote the philosophy, literature, performing arts and socio-cultural ideals associated with Srimanta Sankardev. The two universities will also work together towards preserving valuable manuscripts and archival material through digitisation.
The partnership further seeks to establish an academic bridge between North-East India and Northern India by encouraging intellectual exchange, collaborative learning and cultural interaction.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by senior officials and academicians of Dibrugarh University, including the Registrar, Dean of Colleges, Head of the Department of Assamese and Prof. Satyakam Borthakur, Nodal Officer for coordinating activities under the MoU.
