Panjab University Holds ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ Pledge Ceremony to Mark International Day Against Drug Abuse
Panjab University today organised ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ Pledge Taking functions to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and reaffirm its commitment towards a drug-free campus and society.
Chandigarh, June 30, 2026: Panjab University today organised ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ Pledge Taking functions to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and reaffirm its commitment towards a drug-free campus and society.
The programmes were organised by the PU Registrar’s Office, Nasha Mukt Bharat Cell, Directorate of Sports, Dean Student Welfare and National Service Scheme (NSS), Panjab University.
Addressing the gathering, PU Registrar Prof. Y.P. Verma called upon the participants to educate the younger generation about the ill effects of drug abuse. Drug abuse is a serious challenge, which should be handled collectively by individuals, families and society. Prof. Verma highlighted the key role of educational institutions in creating awareness, prevention and positive behavioural change through sustained educational and outreach initiatives.
Speakers motivated the youth to become ambassadors of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and spread awareness about healthy lifestyles and the harmful effects of drug abuse.
University officials, faculty members, staff, students, NSS volunteers and sportspersons including Director, Sports Dr. Rakesh Malik, Dean Student Welfare (Women) Prof. Namita Gupta, NSS Coordinator Dr. Anupam Bahri, Dr. Archana Chauhan, participated in the ceremony and took the Nasha Mukt Bharat Pledge. Participants resolved to abstain from substance abuse and contribute towards building a healthier and drug-free society.
