PAMETI Holds Workshop On Impact Assessment

Ludhiana, July 13, 2015: A five-day workshop on “Impact Assessment” was organized at Punjab Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (PAMETI), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). As many as 24 trainees from agriculture and allied departments participated in the workshop.
 
In his address, Dr H. S. Dhaliwal, Director, PAMETI introduced the concept of impact evaluation to the trainees. He said, “Impact evaluation helps in clarifying the design and in the implementation of the programmes.” “Impact evaluation measures the causal effect of a policy intervention on intended beneficiaries by comparing outcomes between treatment and control groups overtime,” he added. Dr Dhaliwal emphasized on evaluating the impact of various projects being carried out by the extension officers in their respective areas.
 
During the programme, Dr Kamal Vatta, Director, Centre for International Projects Trust, New Delhi discussed the basics of impact assessment.
 
Mr Ashish Bhardwaj and Ms Garima Taneja from CIPT explained the process of environmental and economic methods of impact assessment.
 
Dr P. S. Birthal, Principal Scientist, National Centre for Agricultural Policies, New Delhi shared his experience of evaluating impact of various development programmes, projects and schemes.
 
Trainees participated in quiz and practical exercises organized at the end of the sessions. Besides, sessions were held on considerations in impact assessment, participatory impact evaluation, writing impact evaluation reports etc.
