Ludhiana, May 8, 2015: The public particularly senior citizen and female pedestrian in particular were feeling difficult to move out of their residences due to traffic hazardous. During peak hours peoples were facing such difficulties in particular. P.D.Sharma, President of Apex Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Punjab) has written to Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, in this respect as under:

“The growing vehicular population is creating out of proportion problems. In colonies like Model Town, Sarabha Nagar and others the pedestrian traffic is proving very hazardous.

Senior citizen and female pedestrian in particular cannot dare to move out of their residence due to traffic hazards. This is so during the peak traffic period in the evening starting from about 7 PM to 9 PM.

I am aware of the constraint of police department fully. All the same some precautionary measures can mitigate the problems.

I have personally seen this problem in Model Town. Surprisingly police station is located in the Gulati Chowk itself but pedestrian are hurt the most here due to irrational driving/parking and other such traffic distractions.

Senior citizens are thankful to police department for voluntarily coming to their rescue. In view of the above facts I would therefore, request you to kindly make some possible operational procedure for the pedestrian traffic. At least some police officials should be present in Gulati Chowk and near post office in Model Town during peak traffic period. Likewise similar location may be identified for other colonies.”
