Newly Elected Dharamshala and Palampur Councillors to Take Oath on June 29
The oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected councillors of the Dharamsala Municipal Corporation will be held on June 29, at 11:00 a.m. in the Cabinet Hall of the Mini Secretariat at Kachhari Adda, Dharamsala. This was informed by Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa.
Dharamsala, June 25, 2026: The oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected councillors of the Dharamsala Municipal Corporation will be held on June 29, at 11:00 a.m. in the Cabinet Hall of the Mini Secretariat at Kachhari Adda, Dharamsala. This was informed by Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa.
He said that, in accordance with the notification issued by the Urban Development Department of the Himachal Pradesh Government, the newly elected councillors will be administered the oath of allegiance to the Constitution of India. The election process for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor will also be conducted on the same day after the oath-taking ceremony.
Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner Vinay Kumar informed that the oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected councillors of the Palampur Municipal Corporation will also be held on June 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Municipal Corporation office in Palampur.
He said that the councillors will be administered the oath of allegiance to the Constitution as per the directions of the Urban Development Department. The elections for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Palampur Municipal Corporation will be conducted immediately after the oath-taking ceremony.
The Municipal Corporation elections were held on May 17, while counting of votes was completed on May 31. In Dharamshala, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a clear majority by winning 11 of the 17 wards under the leadership of MLA Sudhir Sharma. The Congress won five wards, while one seat was secured by an Independent candidate.
In Palampur, the Congress retained control of the Municipal Corporation under the leadership of MLA Ashish Butail by winning 11 of the 15 wards, while the BJP secured four seats. Among the four Municipal Corporations that went to the polls in Himachal Pradesh, the BJP gained control of Dharamshala, Mandi and Solan, while the Congress retained Palampur.
