VB-G Ram G Act to Lay Foundation for Developed Villages: HIRD Director Dr. Chauhan

Rohtak, August 10, 2026: Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), said that the dream of a developed India can be realised only when villages become self-reliant, empowered and connected with the mainstream of development. He called upon Panchayat representatives to promote public participation and ensure the transparent and effective implementation of development schemes.
Dr. Chauhan was addressing Panchayat representatives at a district-level Panch Conference held in Rohtak on Monday. Sarpanches, Panches, members of Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishad members from across the district participated in the conference.
The HIRD Director said that the Viksit Bharat G Ram G Act, 2025 is an important step towards giving a new direction to rural development. The Act will promote employment, transparency and the creation of durable assets in rural areas. He said that under MGNREGA, the employment guarantee has been increased from 100 to 125 days, while provisions have been made for payment of wages on a weekly basis or within a maximum period of 15 days. The new framework also places special emphasis on transparency and the use of modern technology.
He said that Panchayats have the most important role in the development of villages. Panchayat representatives should work with full responsibility and commitment to ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach the last person. He added that self-reliant villages can be built only through empowered, transparent and accountable Panchayats.
On the occasion, HIRD Assistant Professor Sandeep Bhardwaj said that it is essential for Panchayat representatives to have practical knowledge of the provisions of new schemes and the Act. Active participation of Panchayats, transparency and public cooperation can ensure the effective implementation of rural development programmes.
Zila Parishad members Deepak, Mangaram and Amit; Panchayat Samiti member Ajay; APOs Deepak, Kuldeep, Suresh and Pawan; Siddharth; ABPOs Vivek and Amit Dangi, along with other officials and Panchayat representatives, were present at the conference.
