New Delhi, May 14, 2015: Barracuda has extended its Load Balancer product family with the new Barracuda Load Balancer FDC model T740. Built on Intel architecture and featuring improved packet processing performance by up to ten times, Barracuda Load Balancer FDC delivers high 40 Gbps throughput at an industry disruptive price. Designed for virtualized data centers, Barracuda Load Balancer FDC provides scalability and high availability for websites and cloud services. It monitors the health of servers and evenly distributes server loads - all while maintaining session persistence and a seamless user experience in the event that one or more servers become overburdened or unresponsive.

“Users and applications are becoming increasingly dispersed and creating new traffic patterns that are forcing organizations to reexamine their application delivery approach. The next-generation data center needs fast and effective load balancing of server traffic at the physical layer, where it can be handled more efficiently before it enters the application virtualization layer,” said Stephen Pao, GM Security, Barracuda. “The Barracuda Load Balancer FDC addresses these needs with high throughput load balancing, leveraging standard Intel Architecture Processors, to provide customers with a combination of high performance and cost efficiency that is disruptive in the industry.”

According to Gartner, “Traditional applications supported a model that placed the data center at the center of traffic flows. All application access was via the data center, which made it easy to insert security and application delivery capabilities between the client and their applications. New application architectures are changing network traffic patterns, taking the ADCs, front-end optimizers and WOCs out of the data flow, forcing infrastructure architects to rethink their application delivery strategy.” Gartner recommends organizations should, “Move from a model of physical devices allocated to specific application, to one that takes advantage of physical, virtual and cloud resident service elements to support the new device-/browser-/cloud-centric environment.”

The Barracuda Load Balancer FDC is a hardware appliance that is designed for virtualized data center environments requiring high throughput traffic distribution across application server infrastructures that consolidate storage and compute resources. The Barracuda Load Balancer FDC allows organizations to decouple the application access control and application security from the front end device. This architecture enables the front end device to remain solely focused on network traffic distribution, allowing the application access control and the application security to live closer to the application in the virtual environment.

The Barracuda Load Balancer FDC provides scalability and high availability to enterprise-wide TCP/IP services like web, Terminal services, proxy, VPN, streaming media and e-commerce. It is the traffic distribution layer in Barracuda’s orchestrated solution that combines Barracuda next-generation firewalls - for secure site-to-site connectivity across physical and cloud data center locations, and virtual Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) - for security that can be co-located, migrated and scaled with virtualized applications. Highlights include:

• Performance - Leverage modern and open software technologies on top of standard Intel architecture hardware, delivering high 40 Gbps throughput load balancing.

• Availability - Redistribute traffic for efficient use of server resources, employing advanced technologies for monitoring server and application health, ensuring optimal utilization of resources.

• Control - Deliver resilient and responsive services with granular control over application traffic. Barracuda FDC provides management capabilities for dispersed environments.

“The Barracuda Load Balancer FDC makes the most of packet processing by using the DPDK and Intel architecture to provide fast 40 Gbps throughput for application delivery at a disruptive price-point,” said Bob Ghaffari, Director Enterprise & Appliances, Network Platforms Group, Intel Corporation. “The Barracuda Load Balancer FDC enables Application Delivery Networks that provide application availability, security, visibility, and acceleration - all crucial in modern virtualized data centers.”
