Rohtak, January 15, 2026: The District Administration, Rohtak, in collaboration with the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Madina, organised a district-level teacher orientation programme on the effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, covering both primary and secondary education.

The programme was conducted in two sessions, with participation of around 3,000 teachers from across the district, approximately 1,500 teachers attending each session, making it one of the largest teacher capacity-building initiatives organised at the district level.

The first session focused on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) under the NIPUN Bharat Mission and the district initiative “Padhe Rohtak, Likhe Rohtak,” launched in July 2025.

Teachers were oriented on- the NIPUN learner classification framework (N, E, S) for targeted instruction,   Zero Period remediation, implemented across all primary schools, parent–teacher Circles, digital skill passbooks and continuous tracking of learning outcomes and assessment as a diagnostic and support-oriented tool, rather than a judgment mechanism.

The district shared measurable learning improvements based on census-based and third-party validated assessments;      Grade 2 literacy: word reading improved by 19%, sentence reading by 26%, Grade 3 Oral Reading Fluency: 28% improvement in students reading at or above benchmark levels, Grade 3 numeracy: 88.32% students achieved NIPUN competency, nearing universal mastery and All Grades (1–3) recorded consistent double-digit gains in overall proficiency.

The programme highlighted Rohtak’s recognition with the State Good Governance Award–2025 for Padhe Rohtak, Likhe Rohtak, citing universal school coverage, data-driven governance and a scalable, low-cost model.

The second session focused on strengthening secondary education through competency-based and experiential learning, in alignment with NEP 2020. Key areas included; Critical thinking across subjects, using real-life and local-context examples, career counselling, public speaking and communication skills, to be institutionalised as regular school practices, Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and Virtual Labs, with prior hands-on training already conducted for 50 teachers at DIET Madina, SPARK Programme for nurturing scientific temper and inquiry-based learning and ECO Classroom Observation Tool for structured academic feedback and mentoring.

Teachers were introduced to practical strategies such as inquiry-based lessons, project work, debates, virtual experiments, AI-enabled remediation and communication activities to improve student engagement and conceptual clarity, particularly in government schools.

Teachers also shared that students are showing greater confidence in reading, speaking and classroom participation as a result of these structured interventions.

Addressing the teachers, the Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta said, “NEP 2020 is not about changing textbooks alone, but about changing classroom mindsets. Rohtak has demonstrated that strong foundational learning, supported by data and teacher mentoring, combined with critical thinking, communication skills and career guidance at the secondary level, is the key to preparing confident and future-ready learners.”

He further said that initiatives such as career counselling, critical thinking activities, public speaking, AI-enabled teaching, SPARK and ECO-based academic mentoring will now be taken up as regular and structured academic practices, rather than one-time interventions.

The programme reaffirmed the Rohtak district administration’s commitment under the guidance of DC Sachin Gupta to implementing NEP 2020 in letter and spirit, ensuring a seamless continuum from foundational learning in early grades to career readiness and innovation at the secondary level.
