Chandigarh, October 13, 2015: A two day, national conference on Advanced Oxidation Processes is being organized from 15th to 16th October, 2015, at Dr S.S Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Panjab University (PU) in collaboration with SECAS (Society of Environmental Chemistry & Allied Science) and ERC (Energy Research Centre). The organizing secretary of the AOP conference, Prof Amrit Pal Toor, says that the  focal theme of this conference shall be the “waste management and waste water treatment techniques using various oxidation processes”.
The outcome of this conference could be of immense importance for the states of Punjab and Haryana where the use of pesticides and insecticides has deteriorated the underground and over ground quality of water beyond safe WHO parameters.
The process of AOP is based on the production of highly oxidizing radical entity, the understanding of its formation under various conditions and of the various reaction pathways that ultimately lead to the degradation of organic compounds in solid, liquid and gaseous states is an area of tremendous interest. In addition, emergence of nanoscience and nanotechnology has contributed to the efficiency of TiO2 based photo catalysis and hence the degradation of pollutants.
The keynote speaker, Professor Emeritus, PU Prof. S.K. Sharma, will give an insight about the    “design evaluation and techno-economic evaluation of different advanced oxidation processes”. Prof. Sharma is a renowned scientist in the field of energy & environmental conservation at national and international level. He has been awarded with Surya award and Fulbright, Ford Foundation and US AID Fellowships for his contribution at international and national level.
Vice-Chancellor, PU Prof. Arun Grover, shall grace occasion. In addition, various subject expert speakers, researchers  and students from all over the country will attend the two day conference. This two day national conference will provide a common platform for interaction among the researchers and experts in the fields of oxidation processes and its advancement. It will provide an opportunity for the exchange of new ideas in these fields and to share the most advanced knowledge from both academic and industrial world, communicating with each other about their experiences and the most up-to-date research achievements, taking forward the issues and future prospects in this field. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
