Shimla, April 12, 2017: With a view to ensure facility to the pharma industry for testing their products within the state, an ultra modern laboratory of National Pharmaceutical Education and Research Institute (NIPR) would be set up at Baddi in Solan district. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed today between the State Government and NIPR at the office of NIPR in Mohali for this composite pharma testing lab. The project would cost Rs. 12 crore.

The MoU was signed by Director Industries Rajesh Sharma on behalf of Himachal Government and by Dr.USN Murthi on behalf of NIPR. The Laboratory would be jointly managed by the Himachal Government, NIPR and HMDA, whereas the technical assistance would be provided by NIPR. All modern facilities would be provided in the lab for testing of pharma products and the state government would bear the entire cost of the project.

With the setting up of this laboratory at Baddi, the pharma industry in the state would be immensely benefited, as presently the entrepreneurs have to go outside the state for testing of different pharma products.

Industries Minister Shri Mukesh Agnihotri had raised the issue with Union Chemicals and Fertilizer Minister Shri Anant Kumar during last year to set up this laboratory at Baddi.

Additional Director Industries Shri Tilak Ram Sharma revealed that more than 70 per cent medicines were being manufactured at Baddi and setting up of this laboratory would benefit the entire pharma industry. He added that the state government would also soon develop a bulk drug park at Baddi.
