More than 350 students participated in Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyata Fair at HMV

Jalandhar, February 25, 2022: Under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. Ajay Sareen, Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar is celebrating 7 day long Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate Festival of Scope for all, “Science Communication, Popularization & Its Extension” . College is celebrating this event in association with Ministry of Culture, PSA Govt. of India and Vigyan Prasar,  to mark 75th “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” . This programme is organized under State Nodal Agency of Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, Chandigarh. The theme of 3rd day of National Science Week celebrations was “Milestones from world of Indian Science and Technology”. 3rd day of this festival started with lighting of lamp by chief guest of the day Dr. Ravinder Singh, Senior Scientist, Indian Council of Medical Research, followed by formal welcome by Principal Prof. Dr. Ajay Sareen, Meenakshi Syal, Convener, Dr. Neelam Sharma, Dr. Seema Marwaha and Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Coordinators of the event. 
On this occasion Principal Prof. Dr. Ajay Sareen appreciated the great contribution made by Dr. Ravinder Singh in the field of Medical Science. She also thanked the Govt. of India for giving opportunity to college to organize seven days National Science Festival and to interact with great scientists. The aim of this Science Festival is to inculcate scientific aptitude among people. She also appreciated the sincere efforts of students and faculty to make this event successful. 

Dr. Ravinder Singh, Senior Scientist, Indian Council of Medical Research, elaborated about various milestones achieved in health sectors. He emphasized that we should live stress free life. He discussed in detail about various development in Indian health sector from 1950 to 2022 by comparative data. Because of latest development in the field of science and technology, there is reduction in death rate and enhancement in life expectancy. India is able to come out from COVID-19 pandemic because of progress in field of Medical Sciences. After this talk two documentary movies based on life and contribution made by Indian Scientists Satyendra Nath Bose and S. Chandrasekhar screened. Rajwant Kaur, Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School Kapurthala and  Dr. Suman, Principal, Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Karari judged the “Sci- Attire- Fancy dress” Competition. While Samita Bansal, Cambridge International School, Jalandhar and Anuradha, Head, Chemistry Dept., PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar judged the “Fusion of Colours: Rangoli” competition.  In Fancy Dress Competition students dressed as rocket, planets, doctors, Covid virus etc. In Rangoli Competition students presented various scientific phenomena like mirage effect and laser effect etc. More than 70 students participated in these competitions. Samreen Kaur, Samriti Thakur and  Lavanya Sharma stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in Fancy dress Competition. Harmanjot and Dilrajan got 1st prize, Hitesh and Renuka got 2nd prize and Ramandeep Kaur and Priyanshu stood 3rd in Rangoli Competition. To enhance knowledge of students regarding vegetable sciences, an educational excursion to Indo-Israel Center of Excellence for Vegetables, Kartarpur was also organized under the direction of Dr. Harpreet Singh, Head, PG Department of Bioinformatics and Dr. Shuchi Sharma, PG Department of Botany. Assistant Directors Horticulture Dr. Daljit Singh Gill and Dr. Lal Bahadur  made students aware about various aspects of protected cultivation and activities and mission of the centre towards sustainable development of the farmers. Dr. Tejbir Singh (HDO), Dr. Tripat (HDO) and Mr. Anmoldeep Singh (Vegetable expert) took students to various green/Poly houses, net houses and showed them their technology. Baljinder Singh, District Science Supervisor also took round of Science Fair Exhibition and Book Fair, where different departments gave experiential learning to students by performing live experiments. More than 350 students visited the science fair. Numerous books by different publishers were displayed in the book fair. Students were fascinated to see such a huge variety of books on different aspects of science and technology. In afternoon session, Dr. Suman Singh, Principal Scientist and Head, Material Science and Sensor Application, CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh addressed students by virtual mode. Dr. Neelam Sharma extended warm welcome to her. She discussed in detail about role of scientific research in upliftment of society. She has proposed 3 categories of research viz. Basic research, research for society and research for strategy. Development of any nation is a dynamic process for which science and technology is an engine. Then she explained the relationship between science, society and technology. Science makes our life easier but we should opt for sustainable development. She inspired the students to make new innovation and also do the marketing of same. Mrs. Purnima Sharma, Incharge of the day moderated the session. In evening session students enjoyed the Beauty of Biodiversity through numerous preserved specimens and learnt about their health parameters through experiential learning organized by Zoology department. Students performed blood group testing and determined their blood group type. They also performed “Dermatoglyphics” to study the ridge pattern of their palm and fingerprints.
