Rohtak, March 16, 2026: Taking a significant step to protect the people from oral cancer, the Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences (PGIDS) has kindled a new hope in the battle against the disease—an initiative that is set to prove a boon for patients.

Dr. H.K. Agarwal, Vice-Chancellor of the Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, inaugurated the Oral Pre-cancer and Cancer Clinic at the Dental College on Monday. Established with the support of the Haryana government, the clinic marks a major milestone.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Agarwal said that oral cancer is a dreaded disease; if allowed to progress to advanced stages; it can not only disfigure a person's face but also cause severe difficulties in eating. Consequently, the timely detection of oral cancer is of paramount importance. Every year, approximately 100,000 people in India are affected by oral cancer.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Agarwal noted that this clinic will provide patients with a vital facility for the screening of early cancer symptoms and for subsequent treatment. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is also set to be introduced in this specialized clinic soon, enabling the detection of cancer at its absolute earliest stages.

Director Dr. S.K. Singhal remarked that this clinic represents a significant achievement for the Dental College and will provide high-quality medical services to patients. Dr. M.G. Vashishth, Dean of Academic Affairs, added that the clinic will also facilitate the education and training of students regarding cancer. Medical Superintendent Dr. Kundan Mittal informed that the clinic will utilize modern equipment and technology in its operations.

Dr. Ambika Gupta, the In-charge of the Oral Cancer Clinic, explained that patients visiting the facility will be provided with services ranging from the screening of early cancer symptoms to biopsies and comprehensive treatment.

Faculty members of the Dental College including Dr. Lavina, Dr. Cheena, Dr. Komal, Dr. Sanjeev Prasad, Dr. Mannu Rathi, Dr. Virendra, Dr. Mala, Dr. Anshul, Dr. Manjunath, Dr. Adarsh, and Dr. Vipul were present on the occasion.

Dr. Harneet Singh said that, alongside treatment, patients at the clinic would also be provided with counseling and education to ensure they remain aware of their health. He noted that people often neglect to have small fragments of teeth removed, which can potentially lead to oral cancer in the future. He explained that the primary symptoms of oral cancer include white or red patches inside the mouth, pain or a burning sensation in the mouth, a lump or swelling in the throat, loosening of teeth, and difficulty in eating or drinking.
