Modi hopes Nepal implements constitution soon

New Delhi, May 27 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday batted for improved economic cooperation with Nepal and expressed hope that the neighbouring country would adopt its constitution in the stipulated one-year time-frame.

"Prime Minister Modi sought better cooperation with Nepal with increased projects in areas such as rail, road and hydropower transmission," Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh told media persons here after the meeting at Hyderabad House here.

Modi, in his meeting with Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, acknowledged that the neighbour was an "old, deeply valued friend" with "shared history, geography and a civilisation", she said.

Modi conveyed to Koirala that he hoped Nepal would implement its constitution in the one-year time frame it has stipulated for itself.

Koirala was among the SAARC leaders who had attended Modi's swearing-in ceremony on Monday.
