Rohtak, July 15, 2026: In a significant student-centric initiative, Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, has announced a one-time opportunity for students who could not complete their degrees due to shortage of marks in sessional/internal assessment. The university has issued a notification introducing a Special Sessional/Internal Assessment Examination, enabling eligible candidates to clear the pending requirement and obtain their degrees.
The facility will be available to final-semester students and those who have already exhausted their prescribed duration of study but whose results remain pending solely because of insufficient internal assessment marks. The provision will apply only to courses where internal assessment forms part of the evaluation system and will not be used for improvement of marks. Students will be awarded only the minimum marks required to pass the concerned paper.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milap Punia said the decision reflects the university's commitment to ensuring that deserving students are not deprived of their degrees due to deficiencies in internal assessment alone. The university believes in providing fair academic opportunities while maintaining the integrity of the examination system. This special provision will help eligible students complete their academic journey without compromising academic standards, he said.
Controller of Examinations Prof. Rahul Rishi said applications for the special examination will be accepted twice every year, during the May–June and December–January sessions. Following verification of eligibility, the concerned college, institute or university teaching department will conduct the examination. If the institution concerned is no longer functional, the relevant university teaching department will organize the assessment.
After successfully qualifying in the special examination, candidates will receive a revised result, following which their final degree will be awarded. The university has fixed the examination fee at ₹5,000 per subject for the Special Sessional/Internal Assessment Examination.
The move is expected to benefit a large number of students whose academic progression has remained stalled due to pending internal assessment requirements, while reinforcing the university's efforts to adopt a more student-friendly academic framework.
