Lyallpur Khalsa College Celebrates National Sports Day

Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, celebrated National Sports Day on August 29 to mark the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Physical Education & Sports in collaboration with the Departments of Zoology, Botany, History, the NSS unit, and NCC.

Jalandhar, August 29, 2025: Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, celebrated National Sports Day on August 29 to mark the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Physical Education & Sports in collaboration with the Departments of Zoology, Botany, History, the NSS unit, and NCC.
Shri Vaneet Dhir, Mayor of the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar, was the Chief Guest. He was accorded a warm welcome by Principal Dr. Suman Chopra, Dr. Rachhpal Singh (Dean Sports), Prof. Simranjit Singh (Head, Department of Physical Education & Sports), and members of the Sports Committee.
In her inaugural address, Principal Dr. Chopra highlighted the remarkable contribution of Lyallpur Khalsa College in the field of sports and reiterated the institution’s commitment to providing world-class facilities to budding sportspersons. She urged students to draw inspiration from the life and achievements of Major Dhyan Chand.
After paying floral tribute to the hockey legend, the Mayor flagged off the cross-country race. Addressing the gathering, Shri Dhir encouraged students to set clear goals and pursue them with dedication in order to excel at national and international levels. He advised them to maintain honesty, commitment, and true sportsmanship, while steering clear of social evils such as drugs. He also lauded the rich sporting legacy of Lyallpur Khalsa College.
As part of the celebrations, a cross-country race was organised in which prizes were awarded to the top 10 male and top 5 female athletes.
In the concluding session, Dr. Rachhpal Singh Sandhu (Dean Sports) extended a formal vote of thanks. The proceedings were conducted by Prof. Satpal Singh, Chief Programme Officer of the NSS.
The event was also graced by coaches S. Sarabjit Singh (Athletics), Dr. Sarabjit Singh (Basketball), S. Davinderpal Singh (Hockey), and faculty members including Dr. Dinkar Sharma, Dr. Ajitpal Singh, Dr. Karanbir Singh, Dr. Vikas Kumar, Dr. Harjinder Singh Sekhon, Dr. Palwinder Singh, Prof. Surbjit Singh, Prof. Ajay Kumar, Prof. Manvir Pal, S. Jagdish Singh, and Paramjit Singh.
