Ludhiana News/Lawyers stages protest against notification of new Punjab Rent Act

Lawyers staged a protest at Ludhiana on Wednesday, against the state government for issuing notification of the new Punjab Rent Act. They also interrupted vehicular traffic as a mark of the protest. According to the new Act, the rent cases will be tried by the respective sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs)/revenue officers of the districts instead of the judiciary. And the appellate tribunals would be set up only at four districts of the state to hear appeals against the decisions of SDMs. The today’s protest was held after the legal fraternity observed that the government is not keen on resolving the issue. The Ludhiana-based lawyers had also observed complete strike on Tuesday.
