Lt.Gen. Gurpal Singh Sangha, AVSM, SM, VSM joins as Chair Professor, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Chair in the DDNSS

In pursuance of excellence in research, Panjab University has appointed Lt Gen Gurpal Singh Sangha, AVSM, SM,VSM, as Chair Professor, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Chair at the Department of Defence and National Security Studies.

Chandigarh, June 17, 2023: In pursuance of excellence in research, Panjab University has appointed Lt Gen Gurpal Singh Sangha, AVSM, SM,VSM, as Chair Professor, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Chair at the Department of Defence and National Security Studies.

Gen Sangha, Former Chief of Staff, Western Command, Chandimandir was commissioned into 11 Grenadiers in 1981and has served the Indian Army for nearly four decades. He has extensive operational experience and has commanded various formations in Punjab, J&K, West Bengal and Rajasthan. As a staff officer he has held several crucial appointments like Brigade Major, Director Defence Cooperation and Major General Operational Logistics.

An alumnus of National Defence College, New Delhi and Defence Services Staff College Wellington, General Sangha also served at Warminster, Wiltshire, United Kingdom as an Indian Army Liaison officer.

General Sangha assumed the Chair on 16 June 2023 in the presence of Prof Renu Vig, Vice- Chancellor, Panjab University, Dr Jaskaran Singh Waraich, Chairperson Department of Defence and National Security Studies and Lt Gen Iqbal Singh Singha, AVSM, VSM, Director Global and Government Affairs at TAC Security. Welcoming his appointment, Prof Renu Vig said that Panjab University deemed it an honour to have Gen Sangha associated with the Institution and looked forward to his contribution in strengthening the research and academic potential of the Department of Defence and National Security Studies as well as spreading awareness regarding the contribution of the region in maintaining the Nation’s integrity and security.
