Students of LPU looking cheerful as lifted All India Inter University Softball (Men) Championship Trophy.

Jalandhar, February 17, 2016: After recording marvelous national win for Association of Indian Universities’ Softball women championship; Lovely Professional University sportsmen also added to this glory by lifting All India Inter-University Softball (Men) Championship trophy. LPU made this win by defeating University of Calicut Kerala, Punjab University Chandigarh and Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University Maharashtra, in respective league matches. LPU team topped with 6 points by winning all the three league matches with 2 scores each. Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University (SGBAU) Maharashtra got second position with 4 points by winning 2 matches; and, Punjab University Chandigarh & University of Calicut Kerala both remained third with 1 Point each on playing a draw against each other. Chief Guest of the Final Day, LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal handed over the scintillating trophy to Championship winning team. General Secretary Punjab Softball Federation Mr PN Passi and National Umpire from Maharashtra Mr Mukul Deshpandey were also present.

This year, championship was held at LPU Campus, where 75 universities from all across India participated with an aim to grab the coveted trophy. LPU players exhibited finest softball skills during knockout- rounds also. LPU Players gathered applaud from spectators and rival teams’ players also. In fact, there was no slow start for LPU players in any of the matches. Each of the LPU team members was also honoured with gold Medal of the tournament. Ashish Zimpe of Amravati University was declared as the best pitcher of the championship.

Congratulating the winner team, LPU Pro-Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal said: “We are happy to note that LPU sportsmen, too, not lagged behind than women team and lifted the winner’s trophy to add more glory to themselves and their university second time in a row. We feel proud to share that maximum players of the winning team belong to professional programs other than physical education. I advise winners to keep up this winning spirit in each and every sphere of their life.”

LPU Pitcher Gurpreet, Catcher Raghav, Batter Vikram displayed the best of softball skills along with other team members. LPU players’ true team spirit made them to win the national title. Although, the final league matches were very tough; yet, LPU players did not allow their opponents to have even a single win over them. Thousands of spectators enjoyed all the matches for the best sports struggle, and the championship proved to be a storybook ending for all.
