Dr Sunil Katyal (Professor & Head of Anaesthesia) said that there has been lot many advancements in the recent years for effective pain management but inspite of this, the results have not been very satisfactory. The reason being that besides technological advancements, anaesthesists should also be properly trained and they should also be able to imply their specialised skills in an appropriate and scientific manner. Ludhiana, October 15, 2014: To commemorate World Pain Management Week, Department of Anaesthesia today organized a symposium on ‘Pain Management’ which was attended by surgeons and anesthesiologists. Dr Suneet Kathuria(Professor of Anaesthesia),Dr Jaspal Singh(Professor & Head of Surgery) and Dr Mohd Yamin(Professor & Head of Orthopaedics) delivered the lectures.

It was mentioned that effective postoperative pain control is an essential component of the care of surgically treated patients.  Inadequate pain control, apart from being inhumane, may result in increased morbidity or mortality. The advantages of effective postoperative pain management include patient comfort and satisfaction, faster recovery and very less chances of getting pulmonary and cardiac complications. A multidisciplinary team approach is required for effective pain management.

Dr Sunil Katyal (Professor & Head of Anaesthesia) said that there has been lot many advancements in the recent years for effective pain management but inspite of this, the results have not been very satisfactory. The reason being that besides technological advancements, anaesthesists should also be properly trained and they should also be able to imply their specialised skills in an appropriate and scientific manner.

Principal Dr Daljit Singh lauded the effort of Department of Anaesthesia in organising the lectures to make students aware of latest techniques of pain management. Also present on the occasion was Medical Superintendent  Dr Ashwani Chaudhary.
