Lecture on “Teaching French Language through Literature” 

Ludhiana: The Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a lecture on “Teaching French Language through Literature” today. The lecture was held in collaboration with the PAU club “Litteraire Français”.

In her talk, Dr Cecilia Antony, Chairperson, Department of French and Francophone Studies, Panjab University, explained how literature can be used as a tool for teaching a foreign language (French language in particular). In this context, she touched different aspects of teaching-learning process, such as comprehension, grammar, writing skills and practical skills. Dr Cecilia broke the myth that literature can’t be introduced in the very beginning of learning a language, especially, a foreign language. She stressed upon her point by asking the students to analyse a simple poem by Jacques Prevert, a 20th century popular French poet.

The Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, Dr Shammi Kapoor presided over the function. Highlighting the importance of foreign languages, he said foreign languages like French are very important for career growth, especially, in the present era of globalization.

Ms Harpreet Kaur Bains, Assistant Professor of French, PAU, proposed the vote of thanks. After the lecture, some student artists entertained the audience with their musical performance.
