Chandigarh, October 4, 2023: The Department of Education in collaboration with the Department of English and Cultural Studies, Panjab University organized a special lecture that centred around theme of "Gandhi's Idea of Education and Democracy." 

The event featured the esteemed speaker, Professor Krishna Kumar, who is renowned for his expertise in the subject matter. The session was chaired by the Dean of University Instructions, Prof. Rumina Sethi. The Chairperson of the Department of Education Professor Satvinderpal Kaur, welcomed the speakers. Professor Krishna Kumar's lecture centered around key principles that Gandhi advocated in the context of education and democracy. 

The lecture delved into Gandhi's unwavering moral framework,Political Ideology, emphasizing the importance of personal ethics and integrity in public life. Professor Krishna Kumar drew connections between Gandhi's core values and their relevance to the principles of democracy. He highlighted how Gandhi's emphasis on inclusivity, social justice, and empowerment of the marginalized echoed the fundamental tenets of democracy. Gandhi's vision of a just and equitable society resonated strongly with the ideals of democratic governance.

The event concluded with a vibrant Q&A session and Professor Rumina Sethi, in her address, drew comparisons between the philosophies of Tagore and Gandhi while also elaborating on the concept of "Swaraj" (self-governance). The event concluded with the vote of thanks from Prof. Akshaya Kumar, Chairperson, Department of Education.
