KMV successfully organises three-day international workshop on health psychology

Jalandhar, April 18, 2022: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organised a three-day international workshop on Health Psychology. The workshop was organised by PG Department of Psychology. Dr Robert Urban, Professor in Health Psychology from Eotvos Lorand University, Budapest, Hungary was the resource person for the workshop. 

Dr Robert has come to KMV for the second time under the MoU signed between KMV and Eotvos Lorand University, Budapest, Hungary. During the first day of the workshop, Dr Robert commenced the workshop by explaining the clear meaning of the term health psychology and also put forward amongst the students the very important question that what is the meaning of health according to everyone in their own perspectives. He initiated the discussion with an icebreaking session where he asks the students about the various reasons of studying psychology. 

Dr Robert also threw light upon the six dimensions of health indicators as well as the different health models. On the second day of the workshop, Dr Robert elaborated on the concept of stress, health and coping. He also practically explain to the students through two activities namely raisin meditation and also asked the students to mark the important areas of human body which arouse the stressful reactions such as anxiety, panic and sweating etc. 

Dr. Robert also talked about the concept of problem orientation in which he explained about positive problem orientation and negative problem orientation which represent one’s positive attitude and negative attitude in tackling problems. 

During the last day of the workshop, Dr Robert highlighted the various relaxation techniques and explained elaborately the importance of mindfulness in reducing stress from our lives and also stated the various types of problem-solving techniques which helps us to cope with the various stress and challenges in our everyday lives. 


Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that this particular visit by Dr Robert Urban is because of the above mentioned MoU. She further maintained that during Dr Robert’s stay at KMV, the students had a great experience of enriching their knowledge related to the vast field of Psychology. She further averred that this type of activities indicate a commitment of both institutions to work together to establish other opportunities for collaboration and exchange of resources. Such exchange of ideas are a part of the Global Education provided to the students by this Autonomous Institution, KMV.
