KMV organizes series of lectures under DBT Star College Scheme

Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya’s PG Department of Chemistry organized a series of extension lectures under DBT Star College Scheme.
The first lecture was based on Co-ordination Chemistry. The resource person for the lecture was Dr Heena Rekhi, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, GSSDGS Khalsa College, Patiala. During the lecture, Dr Heena enlightened the students about Coordination Chemistry and its applications in various fields like Inorganic Synthesis, Genobiotics, Drug Delivery to name a few. She also highlighted the concept of Coordination Chemistry, Crystal Field Theory, Ligand Field Theory and Electronic Spectra to the students. She also motivated the students to appear in various competitive examination and also suggested tricks to solve the questions related to Inorganic chemistry.
The second lecture was based on Applications of Smart Wet ability Surfaces. The resource person for this lecture was Dr Vikramjeet Singh, Department of Chemistry, NIT Jalandhar. During the course of the lecture, Dr Vikram highlighted the use of smart wet ability surfaces and their applications in micro fluidic systems, emulsion separation, drop wise condensation and as anti fog agents. He also informed the students how to separate oil water mixtures and highly stable emulsions by using smart wet ability surfaces. Students also learned how to fabricate and then identify oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions. Students were also fascinated to watch the separation process and how smart surfaces can be employed for drop motion needed in micro fluidic systems.
The lectures were very interactive and after the session the inquisitive students asked various questions related to the topic from both the resource persons.
Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that the lectures were indeed a learning and knowledge enriching experience for the students and faculty members. She further maintained that it is a matter of great pride that KMV has been granted the coveted status of Star College by Government of India for providing the quality based science education to the students.
Principal also lauded the efforts of Dr Updesh Kaur, Head & faculty members of PG Department of Chemistry for taking such initiatives.
