KMV organises educational trip to Vet Varsity

Jalandhar, November 5, 2023: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organised an Educational Trip to Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana under CURIE grant for the students of M.Sc. Zoology and B.Sc. Medical. The trip was organised by PG Department of Zoology. 

During the visit, students visited the College of Fisheries where Dr. Abhishek Srivastava explained various techniques used in fish culture & further explained the uses and importance of Cemented and Earthen ponds. He also gave the idea about the integrated duck and fish culture, where ducks were used for providing the diet for the fishes. Furthermore, he demonstrated the harvesting of fishes from production pond by using drag net. Some of the fish species were shown to the students along with their identification and economic importance. 

Dr. Shrivastava explained the BioFloc Aquaculture System (BFAS) and Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS) used for culturing the Pangas and Tilapia. 

Dr. Shrivastava then explained the method of preparation of two types of fish diet viz. floating diet as well as sinking diet & also explained a very interesting setup called aquaponics that is an integrated system of fisheries and hydroponics to get high yield of some valuable plants. 

Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of PG Department of Zoology for having organised such a fruitful visit which will enhance the knowledge of the students.
