KMV Calls for Environmental Awareness in International Session on Hidden Threats to Ecosystems

Jalandhar, April 27, 2026: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) P.G. Department of Zoology organized an international talk on the topic “Emerging Contaminants in Aquatic Ecosystems: Hidden Threats.”
The session aimed to create awareness about the growing environmental challenges posed by emerging pollutants and to provide students with insights into modern research approaches in aquatic toxicology.
The resource person for the session was Dr. Owias Iqbal Dar, a Postdoctoral Fellow at Hainan University, China, and a renowned ecotoxicologist. During his talk, Dr. Dar elaborated on the concept of emerging contaminants and highlighted their impact on aquatic organisms as well as human health. He shared his research work on triclosan toxicity in fish and explained the scientific approaches used to study pollutant effects in a very simple and understandable manner. The session helped students understand how laboratory-based studies contribute to environmental protection and risk assessment. The talk proved to be extremely beneficial as it bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and current research trends. Students actively participated and clarified their doubts during the interactive session.
Director Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the Department of Zoology for organizing such an insightful academic event and encouraged the department to continue conducting similar activities for the overall development of the students.
