Khelo India University Games: PU wins Yoga Men and Judo Women overall championships

Chandigarh, December 5, 2025: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh won the Yoga (Men) and Judo (Women) overall championships and secured top-three overall positions in eight sports at the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2025.

PU Director Sports Dr Rakesh Malik said that PU players achieved fifth place among 141 participating universities, winning 14 gold, 33 silver and 18 bronze medals, a total of 65. PU also recorded the highest number of silver medals among all competing institutions this year. He added that the university improved sharply from last year’s tally of 40 medals.

PU clinched the Yoga (Men) overall championship and the Judo (Women) overall crown. The university finished runners-up in Shooting (overall), Canoeing & Kayaking (overall) and Athletics (Women). PU secured third places overall in Women’s Basketball, Women’s Table Tennis, Men’s Badminton and Men’s Kabaddi. Individual medals were also won in Archery, Weightlifting, Cycling, Boxing and Judo.

In sport-wise performance, shooters bagged six gold, nine silver and three bronze medals; canoeing and kayaking athletes secured twelve silver and four bronze; athletes in track and field won four gold, five silver and two bronze; fencers claimed one silver and four bronze; judokas picked up two gold and one silver; boxers won one gold and one silver; cyclists earned two silver medals; swimmers got two bronze; archers won one silver; and Yogasana player added one gold. 

Congratulating the medal winners, coaches and sports officials, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig praised them for their discipline and commitment.
