Jayani Unveils Comprehensive Master Plan Aimed At Improving Health And General Conditions Of Women And Children

Chandigarh, September 10, 2015: The Health and Social Security departments have jointly evolved a comprehensive master plan aiming at improving the health and general conditions of women and children in the state.

This was stated by Health and Social Security Minister Mr Surjit Kumar Jayani while addressing a meeting of the senior officers of these two departments here today. He said that these two departments shared proximity in serving the most important sections of the society. The officers of these two important departments have also been directed to work in cooperation so that a clear message could be sent to the district and border level officers and quality health care and other facilities could be ensured to people.

Giving directions to the district health and social security officers regarding the drug de addiction and rehabilitation centres managed privately in their respective districts, Mr. Jayani asked the officers to keep a close eye on the functioning of such centres and take immediate action against if anything erroneous found in these centres . He also said that a written permission from the Health and Social Security departments was   mandatory while opening any drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centre in the state. Strict legal action would be initiated against the centres if opened without permission, he said.

Appreciating the role and concerted efforts of these two departments in checking the mother- child mortality rate in Punjab by launching much needed combined awareness campaign by the Health department and Anganwari Centres in Punjab, Mr. Jayani said that recently a prestigious National award was conferred on Punjab for checking the infant mortality rate in the state.  Highlighting various ongoing schemes by the health department in Punjab, Mr. Jayani reiterated the resolve of the Punjab health department to provide quality and affordable health care facilities to the people. He said that free medical assistance along with medicines have been provided to people. Besides this the children admitted in Anganwari Centres have been given a complete health cover free of cost against 30 diseases. Periodic supply of free Iron and Folic Acid tablets has been ensured in schools, health and hygiene, nutritious food and other such facilities being provided to children and women, he said.

Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Principal Secretary Health, Ms. Vini Mahajan, Secretary Social Security, Mr. Jaspal Singh, Secretary Health cum National Health Mission Director Hussan Lal, Special Secretary Health, Mr. Vikas Garg and Director Health Dr, Bhagmal, Senior Programme officers, Civil Surgeons, DPOs were also present in the meeting.
