The Department of Applied Agriculture, Central University of Punjab, organised an Industry Interaction Meeting on “Career Opportunities in the Agri-Input Industry with Special Reference to the Seed Sector” last week at the Ghudda campus. The event, held under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, aimed at strengthening industry–academia linkages and orienting students toward professional opportunities in agribusiness.

Bathinda, December 9, 2025: The Department of Applied Agriculture, Central University of Punjab, organised an Industry Interaction Meeting on “Career Opportunities in the Agri-Input Industry with Special Reference to the Seed Sector” last week at the Ghudda campus. The event, held under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, aimed at strengthening industry–academia linkages and orienting students toward professional opportunities in agribusiness.

Amit Kumar, Territory Business Manager at Bayer Crop Science, Betul, served as the resource person. Introducing the guest speaker, Head of the Department Dr. Chidanand Patil highlighted Mr. Kumar’s academic and professional journey and his significant experience in the agriculture sector. Mr. Kumar warmly addressed the audience and shared insights from his own career path—starting from his graduation at Banaras Hindu University to completing an MBA in Agri-Business and advancing from Project Officer to his current profile.

In his talk, Kumar provided practical guidance on building a career in the agri-input and seed sector. He emphasised that professional success in agribusiness requires a blend of technical knowledge and essential soft skills. Proficiency in MS Excel, data analytics, and PowerPoint, along with strong communication, analytical thinking, interpersonal skills, and presentation abilities, were highlighted as key competencies for corporate roles. He also discussed current trends, emerging challenges, and strategic approaches relevant to agribusiness professionals.

The interactive Q&A session witnessed enthusiastic student participation. Queries focused on industry expectations, strategies for farmer engagement, entry-level job pathways, opportunities for women in agribusiness, skill development for competitive success, and internship prospects for MBA Agribusiness students. Kumar responded with real-world examples, providing clarity on organisational expectations and sector-wise career growth.

Earlier, Dr. Deepak Pal, Assistant Professor, delivered the welcome address and outlined the objectives of the programme, noting that such initiatives are crucial for students to understand practical aspects of the agricultural industry. The programme attracted 50 participants, including faculty members and students of the department.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Pal, who appreciated the guest speaker and participants for making the session productive and insightful.
