Immense Demand for Postgraduate Diploma, Short and Certificate Courses of Vet Varsity

Ludhiana, June 1, 2023: Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Ludhiana started new Post graduate Diploma, short, certificate courses at Varsity from the academic session 2021-22. 

Dr. Sarvpreet Singh Ghuman, Dean College of Veterinary Science, Ludhiana informed that the college has designed several post-graduate diploma courses, certificate courses, and short courses to comply with the New Education Policy. Qualifications for most of the courses are Bachelor of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry whereas for some courses this is B.Sc. (Biosciences and Agriculture), Life Sciences and any discipline of science. The duration of the diplomas is one year, certificate courses are of six months duration whereas short courses are of six weeks duration. The post-graduate diploma courses aim to enhance competencies in large animal reproduction, small animal clinical practice, one health, bovine clinical practice and equine clinical practice. The college offers certificate/ short courses in Diagnostic Imaging and Small Animal Anesthesia.

Several short courses in priority areas have been instituted to impart skill-based knowledge. In recently held counselling for these courses a tough competition was observed among students to seek admission in these courses especially in clinical branches. In many courses the number of students seeking admission to these courses far outnumbered the available seats.

These courses were introduced by the University as per New Education Policy 2020 to enhance professional skills and to make students market ready for providing solutions to the issues of society and the farmers, Dr. Ghuman added.

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor GADVASU congratulated the Dean, faculty and staff for making efforts to successfully conduct these newly introduced courses and making these courses immensely popular among students. He further wished that all the newly enrolled students in these courses will specialize in their fields and begin their entrepreneurship start-ups to serve the farmers.
