Chandigarh, March 8, 2013: Keeping in view the tourist potential in Amritsar, the Punjab government has decided to start course in hospitality at Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Ranjeet Avenue from this session.

Disclosing this here today, Anil Joshi, Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister, Punjab said that Amritsar is fast emerging  on the global tourist map, in order to tap the tourist inflow and to empower the youth in hospitality sector, the Punjab Government has decided to start the course in hospitality in ITI, Ranjeet Avenue, Amritsar from this session. He said that instructions have been issued to the department to compete all the basic formalities regarding this.

The Minister further said that it has also been instructed to start the diploma course in tourism with the modified syllabi. He further said that under Centre for Excellence Scheme, diploma in tourism is currently being run.

Joshi said that due to lack of basic infrastructure, students are reluctant to opt for this diploma course. He said that now the Technical Education Department is revamping the ITI and to equip it with ultra modern infrastructure so as to attract more and more students into it.
