Nilokheri, December 30, 2025: The foundation of a healthy society can only be laid with nutritious food, a clean environment, and aware citizens. These views were expressed by Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan, Director of the Haryana Institute of Rural Development (HIRD), while addressing the participants in a three-day program on the topic of "Food, Nutrition, Health and Sanitation" at the institute.

The program was conducted by the HIRD faculty member and program coordinator, Sushil Mehta. Presenting the training outline, he explained that food, nutrition, and sanitation are deeply interconnected subjects, and a healthy society cannot be imagined without them.

HIRD Director Dr. Chauhan said that the real progress of rural India is possible only when food is not limited to merely filling the stomach but is also linked to nutrition and health. He said that sanitation comes not only from government schemes but also from public participation and behavioral change. He urged the participants not to confine the knowledge gained during the training to papers, but to implement it in their respective areas and raise awareness among the rural community.

Dr. Virender Singh Chauhan described nutrition, health, and sanitation as complementary to each other, saying that a strong, self-reliant, and healthy rural India can be built only through a balance of these three. He said that today, there is a need to adopt food not only on the basis of taste and quantity but also on the basis of its nutritional value. “Malnutrition is not only a health problem but also a major obstacle to social and economic development. If rural families become aware of nutrition, sanitation, and health, many diseases can be prevented automatically,” he added.

Director, HIRD urged the trainees to set an example themselves and spread the message of sanitation, balanced diet, and a healthy lifestyle to every village, only then will the training prove meaningful. National Rural Development Institute Coordinator Ashish Singh and other participants were also present.
