Haryana DGP appealed to agitating Jats to call off their agitation

Chandigarh, February 19, 2016: Haryana Director General of Police, Mr Yash Pal Singal has appealed to the agitating Jats to call off their agitation.
Mr Singal, who was addressing the media persons here today, said that as a result of the ongoing agitation, one person has lost life as an unidentified person in the mob fired from his country made pistol which hit a jawan of the BSF in Rohtak today. Therefore, the BSF returned the fire in self defence which killed a person in the mob. Haryana Police had not fired gunshot on anyone during this incident, he added.
He said that in another incident first the mob attacked a Deputy Superintendent of Police and the police force at a gate of Mahrishi Dyanand University in Rohtak took the DSP and police personnel hostages. The mob also went to circuit house and damaged the car of the DIG and police gypsy besides setting on fire a police vehicle Tavera. The mob also set on fire and vandalized the house of Finance Minister in Rohtak.
The DGP said that requisition to call Army has been sent to handle the situation in the districts of Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sonipat, Panipat, Bhiwani, Jind, Hisar and Kaithal in the state. Apart from this, request to call 30 companies of paramilitary forces have been made with the Centre. It is hoped that all companies would be made available very soon. He said that while the Chief Minister has spoken to Defence Minister, Chief Secretary has spoken to Army Chief in this regard.
In reply to a question, he said that orders have been issued to jam social networking sites. As and when situation would improve, facility of internet would be restored, he added.
In reply to a question, he said that however, it has not yet been decided to impose curfew in the state as it is hoped that situation would be on the track very soon. In case, law and order situation is not maintained, we will consider imposing curfew, he added./ (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
