Rohtak/Gohana, August 21, 2026: Teachers and employees of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (BPSMV), protesting over delayed salaries and demanding regular monthly payments, have hardened their stand: “No more assurances—we want a concrete guarantee.” The indefinite protest continued for the fourth consecutive day on Friday after talks with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudesh ended without a breakthrough.
The protest, being held at the university’s main gate under the joint banner of the BPSMV Teachers’ Association and BPSMV Employees’ Struggle Committee, remained peaceful. The employees said the agitation would continue until they receive a concrete assurance on payment of pending salaries and a mechanism to ensure timely salaries in the future.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudesh reached the protest site on Friday morning and held talks with the employees. She said the university administration was in continuous communication with the state government and was pursuing the release of funds for clearing pending salaries as well as ensuring adequate budgetary provision for regular salary payments in the future.
Prof. Sudesh expressed hope that the required budget would be released soon and appealed to the employees to call off the protest.
Employee representatives, however, sought a definite or indicative timeline for the release of funds. They told the Vice-Chancellor that they were prepared to withdraw the protest if a firm time-bound assurance was given for clearing salary arrears and ensuring regular payments in future.
The Vice-Chancellor said she could assure them of continued efforts at the government level, but could not provide a definite date or guarantee for release of the budget. The talks subsequently ended in a deadlock, with employees deciding to continue their indefinite sit-in.
According to the general secretary of the Association, Prof. Ashok Verma, salary payments at the university have remained irregular for nearly two years, with salaries on several occasions being delayed for more than four months. He said the prolonged uncertainty had caused serious financial difficulties for employees in meeting essential family expenses.
The teachers have also stopped performing additional responsibilities since August 17 as part of their protest. The employees are demanding immediate clearance of pending salaries, adequate budgetary allocation through March 2027, and a permanent and sufficient budget provision for salaries in every financial year. They maintained that the indefinite protest would continue until a concrete and lasting solution to the salary crisis is guaranteed.
Congress Leaders Extend Support
Senior Congress leader and former Gohana MLA Jagbir Singh Malik and Baroda MLA Induraj also visited the protest site and extended support to the employees.
Malik expressed concern over the university’s prolonged financial crisis and highlighted the institution’s distinctive role. MLA Induraj assured the protesting employees that their demands would be raised during the forthcoming Assembly session.
