The Sports Executive Board of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) on Friday recommended a substantial increase in cash incentives for Olympic medal winners and took several key decisions to strengthen sports activities and infrastructure at the university.

Rohtak, August 21, 2026: The Sports Executive Board of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) on Friday recommended a substantial increase in cash incentives for Olympic medal winners and took several key decisions to strengthen sports activities and infrastructure at the university.

The meeting, chaired by Dr Rajwanti Sharma, was held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cricket Stadium on the MDU campus. The board discussed the sports budget for the session 2026-27, constitution of selection committees for university teams and the annual inter-college sports calendar. The audit report concerning temporary advances from the Sports Council Fund for 2025-26 was also reviewed.

The key proposal was to enhance incentives for Olympic medal winners. The board recommended ₹21 lakh for a gold medal, ₹15 lakh for silver and ₹11 lakh for bronze. The proposal will now be forwarded to the Sports Council for final approval.

The board also considered suggestions received from Physical Education departments of affiliated colleges. A proposal was discussed to constitute a committee to update the 2002 Sports Council Rules and Regulations Handbook in line with the prevailing rules and regulations

Director Sports Kultaj Singh expressed gratitude to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milap Poonia for entrusting Dr Vipin Saini with the charge of Assistant Director. He also appreciated Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s efforts to promote a stronger sports culture in the state.

 All proposals discussed at the meeting were recommended to be forwarded to the Sports Council for approval.
