MDU Moves to Address Hostel Fee Concerns; High-Level Committee Constituted

Rohtak, August 21, 2026: Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak has taken proactive steps to address concerns raised by students over hostel fees and related issues, reiterating its commitment to student welfare and a fair, consultative resolution.

In a significant move, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mila Poonia has constituted a high-level committee of senior university functionaries to comprehensively review the matter. The committee will reconsider the annual 10 per cent increase in hostel fees, revisit the hostel fee structure approved by the Executive Council in 2022 and 2023, and explore the possibility of hostel fee concessions for students belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.

The committee will be headed by the Dean Academic Affairs as Convener and will include the Registrar, Proctor, Controller of Examinations, Chief Warden (Boys), Chief Warden (Girls) and Finance Officer as members. It will examine all aspects of the issue and submit recommendations for further consideration.

University authorities said the administration has remained in regular touch with student representatives and maintained an open channel of dialogue to ensure that genuine concerns are heard and addressed constructively. They stressed that meaningful engagement and mutual understanding are essential for resolving issues in an academic environment.

An MDU spokesperson said the university is sensitive to students’ interests and committed to creating an inclusive, supportive and student-centric educational ecosystem. The constitution of the committee, the spokesperson said, reflects the administration’s efforts to arrive at a balanced and equitable solution while protecting the interests of all stakeholders.

The university has appealed to students to continue participating in constructive dialogue and assured them that every genuine concern will receive due consideration. The administration reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, student welfare and a harmonious campus environment through transparent and responsive governance.
