The Mela showcased the creativity, craftsmanship and entrepreneurial spirit of students while promoting sustainability and eco-conscious living.
The Mela was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Palika Arora, Director Higher Education, UT, Chandigarh, by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The inaugural ceremony was followed by mesmerising cultural performances by the talented students, which added colour and enthusiasm to the celebrations.
A major attraction of the Mela was the exquisite display of handmade Rakhis crafted on the theme of sustainability. The collection featured beautiful crochet Rakhis, embroidered Rakhis, and intricately designed Rakhis embellished with stones and pearls, reflecting the students’ creativity and commitment to sustainable handmade products.
The students of the Department of Clothing & Textiles presented an impressive sustainable fashion show, showcasing innovative outfits created from sustainable and upcycled materials. Beautiful garments made from used jeans and other recycled materials demonstrated how discarded fabrics can be transformed into fashionable and useful products.
The Mela featured more than 50 stalls set up by students, displaying a diverse range of creative products, including handmade paintings, mini gardens, patchwork tote bags, hand-painted dupattas, sustainable dresses and other handcrafted items. The stalls provided students with valuable hands-on experience in product development, marketing, customer interaction and sales.
Food stalls and the college cafeteria further added to the festive spirit by serving a variety of delicious and healthy dishes, which were enjoyed by the visitors. The Mela witnessed heavy footfall and brisk sales, giving students an opportunity to experience entrepreneurship in a real-life setting and earn from their own creative ventures.
Principal Prof. Sudha Katyal appreciated the enthusiastic participation of students and congratulated the IEP Cell for providing such a meaningful platform for nurturing innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship among students. She emphasised that such initiatives help students transform their ideas and skills into viable enterprises and strengthen the spirit of “Earn While You Learn.”
