Grand inauguration of Akhaada 6.0 at Panjab University: Sporting spirit comes alive
The much-awaited annual National Sports Fest, Akhaada 6.0, organised by the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, was inaugurated today with immense enthusiasm and vibrant energy.
Chandigarh, February 26, 2026: The much-awaited annual National Sports Fest, Akhaada 6.0, organised by the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University, was inaugurated today with immense enthusiasm and vibrant energy.
The programme commenced with the formal inauguration by the PU Vice Chancellor and Patron-in-Chief, Prof. Renu Vig, who encouraged students to uphold the values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance through sports.
The ceremony was further graced by the esteemed presence of the Chief Guest, Shri Gaurav Gautam, Haryana Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Sports and Entrepreneurship. He applauded the initiative and highlighted the importance of youth participation in sports for holistic development. He also remarked that although Punjab and Haryana together constitute a small proportion of the country’s population, they contribute significantly to India’s sporting accolades at the international level.
The inauguration was presided over by Shri Sanjay Tandon. In his address, he appreciated UILS for providing universities across the country with a valuable platform to participate in sports and fostering inter-institutional collaboration through such initiatives. Dr. Rakesh Malik, Director Sports, Panjab University, also shared his views on the occasion.
The event was organised under the patronage of Prof. Shruti Bedi, Director, UILS, and Faculty Coordinator, Dr. Sunny Sharma as well as with the organising faculty members of UILS.
Akhaada 6.0 features a diverse range of sporting events. Major outdoor sports, including volleyball, cricket, basketball, and football, promise high-octane competition, while indoor games such as chess, badminton, and table tennis provide a platform for strategic brilliance and precision. Participants from various institutions have gathered to showcase their athletic talent and competitive spirit.
The fest is organised under the dynamic student leadership of Hunar Choudhary, President, Sports Committee, UILS, whose vision and coordination have played a pivotal role in bringing this grand event to fruition.
