From Camera to Story: SUPVA Students Get Hands-On Cinematography Lessons

Rohtak, September 7, 2026: Students of Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA) got a hands-on lesson in the finer aspects of cinematography during a special workshop conducted by noted Bollywood cinematographer Arvind K.
The workshop, organised by the Faculty of Film and Television for third-semester students of the Graduation Cinematography course, gave students an opportunity to learn professional filmmaking techniques and gain insights into the industry.
Sharing his experiences, Arvind K. said cinematography was not merely about recording visuals with a camera, but an art of conveying a story and emotions effectively to the audience. He explained how the right combination of camera position, lenses, framing, lighting and colours can completely transform the impact of a scene.
During the practical session, students learnt about wide shots, mid shots, close-ups, different camera angles and camera movements. They also experimented with shooting the same scene using different techniques. Arvind demonstrated the use of both natural and artificial light, stressing that creative thinking could help filmmakers produce impactful visuals even with limited resources.
He advised students to develop a strong understanding of storytelling alongside technical skills. Students interacted with him on camera technology, lenses, colour combinations, filmmaking and career opportunities in the film industry.
Arvind K. encouraged the students to watch films regularly, practise shooting and observe the world around them through a cinematographer’s lens. Known for his work in films including Gangaajal, Dil Dosti, Bloody Ishq and Dheena, he said constant practice and observation were essential for aspiring cinematographers.
The students described the workshop as an enriching and valuable learning experience.
